After viewing Adichie’s TED Talk answer the following questions:

- Adichie states that we are impressionable and vulnerable in the face of a story, especially when we are young. In American culture, who do you think is most “vulnerable” when it comes to a single story written about them? Why? Provide additional research to support your stance.
- Think of dominant single stories about groups of people within America. Where do they originate? How are they perpetuated? Who is responsible for sending the messages? How have these messages been institutionalized and/or legitimized? How are certain groups disadvantaged by these single stories? What groups benefit from them?
- How can we help change these single stories? How can we facilitate what writer Chinua Achebe called a greater “balance of stories” in America? Where have we already seen examples of this change?
